ABOUT

The 4PANEL experimental comics site is a curatorial project developed by interdisciplinary artist Mark Laliberte.

4PANEL.CA is a space where a range of talented artists creatively explore the four-panel comics format in a formal, abstract, literary, conceptual and/or transformative context. A print version of 4PANEL debuted in issue #28 of CAROUSEL, a Canadian hybrid literary & arts magazine (edited by Laliberte) and continues to appear in each new issue of the bi-annual journal. In 2013, 4PANEL received a Doug Wright Award Honourary Mention, in the ‘Best in experimental or avant-garde comics’ category.

As of Jul ’15, this project is updated twice weekly, with new strips debuting every Monday and Friday. Every month is grouped into a bracketed “issue” of sorts, with the first week set to debut new artists participating in the project; the final strip of most months is a collaborative strip.

The project’s main site of occurrence is 4PANEL.CA — offering over 50 contributing artists a space to creatively explore the four-panel comics format in a formal, abstract, literary, conceptual and/or transformative context. As of Jul ’15, the site is updated twice weekly, with new strips debuting every Monday and Friday. Every month is grouped into a bracketed “issue” of sorts, with the first week set to debut new artists participating in the project; the final strip of most months is a collaborative strip.

4PANEL also appears as an 8 page, full colour print inclusion in every new issue of CAROUSEL, a bi-annual Canadian hybrid literary & arts magazine; in 2013, in its debut year, 4PANEL received a Doug Wright Award Honourary Mention, in the ‘Best in experimental or avant-garde comics’ category.
